Professor Tim Nichols Co-authors Report on Cost Imposition in Great-Power Competition

Professor Tim Nichols, Executive Director of the Duke Counterterrorism and Public Policy Fellowship Program (CTPP) has co-authored a report at AEI, American Enterprise Institute, entitled Cost imposition in the contact layer: Special operations forces and great-power rivalry. “In this report, we first outline the logic of cost imposition. Second, we explain how contemporary cost imposition will be shaped by four important differences between the global war on terror and the emerging era of great-power competition. Third, we discuss the contact layer and the various missions DOD will be tasked to undertake there. Finally, we offer examples, both historical and hypothetical, about how a SOF-centric approach to cost imposition might unfold.”
